WhatsApp is making the voice message better

There was an announcement on Wednesday that WhatsApp is making the voice message better, it will roll out some improvements to voice messages over the coming weeks, including the ability to listen to a message while reading other chats and play messages at 1.5 or 2 times the speed (yes, please, put this feature everywhere).

The experience of recording messages is also improving. WhatsApp now lets you pause and resume your recording, so you don’t have to leave large gaps of silence if you’re thinking of what to say next or redo a recording if you need to have a brief conversation in real life. You’ll also be able to listen to a message before you send it to make sure you didn’t accidentally get cut off or include something you didn’t want to.

WhatsApp is making the voice message better by adding these features:

  • Out of Chat Playback: This new feature allows you to listen to a voice message outside of a chat just like you would watch a YouTube video shared on WhatsApp. It’ll allow you to read and respond to other messages while listening to the voice message that appears as a bar on top of the app.
  • Pause/Resume Recording: You can now pause and resume the recording when sending voice messages. Previously, when you pressed the microphone button, there was no way to stop the recording if you needed to gather your thoughts before speaking.
  • Waveform Visualization: This is more of a cosmetic change and shows a visual representation of the sound of the voice message to help you follow the recording.
  • Draft Preview: You also now have a way of previewing your voice messages before sending them out.
  • Remember Playback: If you pause when listening to a voice message, you can pick up where you left off when you return to the chat.
  • Fast Playback on Forwarded Messages: If you’re in a rush, you can now play voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speeds to listen to them faster on both regular and forwarded messages.

Voice messages have made it quick and easy for people to have more expressive conversations and that\’s why WhatsApp is making the voice message better. Showing emotion or excitement through voice is more natural than text, and in many situations, voice messages are the preferred form of communication on WhatsApp. It’s simple for anyone to use – for your family members who prefer to avoid typing, for your friends who love to tell stories, for your peers who need encouraging words, or for when you want to hear your partner\’s voice at the end of a long day.
