Big Sur leaves 2012 Macs behind as Apples new OS launches
Big Sur is Apple\’s latest operating system (OS) and with its launch, some Mac laptops will not be getting it. This is because as Apple releases a new OS, they tend to drop support for older Macs.
So the older your Mac, the more likely you will be left behind every year a new OS gets released.

What is Big Sur?

macOS Big Sur (version 11.0) is the 17th and current major release of macO. Released to the public on November 12, 2020, Apple Inc.\’s operating system for Macintosh computers.
This new OS succeeds macOS Catalina (version 10.15).
Announced at Apple\’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 22, 2020, this OS comes as version 11.0
Why the name \’Big Sur\’?

The operating system is named after the coastal region of Big Sur in the Central Coast of California.
Why Big Sur leaves 2012 Macs behind
Apple\’s macOS Catalina, which supported every standard configuration Mac that Mojave supported, Big Sur won\’t.
It drops support for various Macs released in 2012 and 2013.

So, Big Sur runs on the following Macs:
- MacBook: Early 2015 or newer
- MacBook Air: Mid 2013 or newer
- MacBook Pro: Late 2013 or newer
- Mac Mini: Late 2014 or newer
- iMac: Mid 2014 or newer
- iMac Pro
- Mac Pro: Late 2013 or newer
- Developer Transition Kit (2020)
Even my Late 2012 Mac I\’m currently using to type this post will not get the Mac OSX – Big Sur. So Sad.
Well, Apple\’s gotta move forward and make some more sales from the sale of Macs, which they have always done. So no surprises there.
